Since the start, Searles has always been a destination for families to enjoy relaxed holidays in a warm and welcoming setting on the edge of the Norfolk coast, and while some kid-friendly activities are timeless fun, keeping all ages entertained can be tricky with teens in tow! Follow our ‘keep everyone smiling’ guide to ensure that all ages enjoy a great getaway.
Best toddler activities at Searles, Norfolk
A stay at Searles Leisure Resort offers a wide range of activities for little ones, all without a long car ride and endless cries of, “Are we there yet?” For our youngest guests, a great spot to run off steam is Sidney’s Indoor Play Zone, a fantastic soft area with slides, climbing frames and ball pits that’s especially useful if the weather is less than stellar. Socks must be worn and we recommend long sleeves and trousers to protect arms and legs, but at £3.50 for a 90-minute session, plus £1 for supervising adults, it’s a great space to keep them active and entertained.
If the sun is shining, don’t miss a visit to Sidney’s Outdoor Play Park too, just a short walk from the centre of the resort – you might even spot our mascot Sidney and his pals as you walk around the resort and they are always ready for a hug! Whatever the weather, no-one minds getting wet in our indoor splash pool, which is ideal for younger children to enjoy the water in a fun, safe environment. And check out our SuperSquad Activities, a programme of creative sessions for little ones to get messy, make a masterpiece or a cuddly pal – check out what’s on here.
When you want to explore further, the beach is footsteps away and a session building the world’s best sandcastle should definitely be on your little one’s ‘holiday must do’ list, along with a paddle in the sea and a morning spent rock pooling for sea creatures – be sure to supervise, handle carefully and return any treasures safely to the water afterwards.
Discover more wildlife on our doorstep at SEA LIFE Hunstanton, located on the promenade heading towards Heacham. Along with an amazing aquarium teeming with fish, rays, shark, jellyfish and seahorses, the marine centre is home to otters and penguins and a hospital for seal pups found abandoned or in difficulty along the coastline.
Or head to Snettisham Park Farm, a working farm where helping hands of all ages are most welcome to feed the orphaned lambs a milk bottle during spring and early summer. There are also chickens and goats to feed and a herd of red deer to get up close to on a tractor tour, the perfect spot to go wild in the country!
Fun activities for pre-teens in Hunstanton, Norfolk
For kids who are a little more independent, there is plenty to keep them busy during the ‘tween’ years while holidaying at Searles Leisure Resort. Getting around on site is easy with our pedal karts which are available for hire and great fun for little ones to enjoy exploring safely.
Our fishing lake, MUGA court, golf club and driving range are fantastic spots to spend time together and encourage young talent, or sign them up for our Grey Goose Archery Challenge. New for 2025, the Searles Sports Academy launches in April and is a brilliant opportunity for 8-14-year-olds to try their hand at a variety of sports under the expert guidance of our leisure team.
Plus, from May to September, our outdoor pool becomes an adventure playground with an aqua inflatable course to challenge the kids or let them have a go at water zorbing and try walking on water, inside a plastic dome – it’s harder than it looks!
Slow the pace, but not the fun, with a morning or afternoon on the beach and teach them the art of stone skimming – the world record is 121.8 metres, a distance achieved by Scotland’s Dougie Isaacs in 2018, so get practising and see if you have champion in the midst (they say the technique is all in the wrist!). Or enjoy a seaside tradition and have a go at crabbing with a bacon-baited line, best dangled off the quayside at Wells-next-the-Sea. Always lower your catch gently back into the water once you’re done!
A wet day calls for a ride on the Searles Land Train into town and a couple of hours spent at Honeypots Studio to pick and paint a souvenir keepsake. Pottery pieces start at £10 and you can have your creation mailed home after it has been glazed and is ready to collect.
Holiday activities for teenagers at Searles
OK, we know that no teen likes to be told what to do, but here is our suggested list of brilliant, teen-friendly activities while staying at Searles. Many teens are health-conscious these days, so start the day with a workout in the gym, outdoor fitness park (14+) or wake up with a dip in the pool. On Saturdays, the Hunstanton promenade parkrun take places from the Salad Bowl Cafe on Cliff Parade from Easter to the end of October, and from North Promenade the rest of the year, so perhaps your teen will permit you to join them on the weekly 5k?
Or bring your bikes and enjoy a ride along the Peddars Way (National Trail Cycle Route 1, a 46-mile largely off-road route which runs from Holme, just past Old Hunstanton, inland as far as Thetford Forest. A shorter, local off-road route loops from Hunstanton through Ringstead and Heacham on largely quiet lanes and farm tracks – get directions here.
Being beside the sea, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy watersports including paddleboarding and kitesurfing with Hunstanton Water Sports, or hire a kayak and explore the creeks around Brancaster Staithe with Hunstanton Kayaks.
If the weather is less than kind, let them explore solo without going too far afield with a session at Bowlers, located above the amusement arcade on The Green, or take a look at what’s on at the Princess Theatre which has a busy programme including films and live national broadcasts.
Of course, age is just a number and you might be surprised that even the most grown-up teenager enjoys nothing more than a day with the ‘old folks’, best served with fish and chips and an ice cream – after all, it’s what makes a stay in Sunny Hunny special! Book a family break at Searles and come make memories together!
