You’ve landed, so to speak, at Searles Leisure Resort, the car’s unpacked, the kettle’s on and its now time to max your precious downtime on the North Norfolk coast. The beach is just across the road from Searles Holiday Park if you fancy a quick paddle, and nothing beats catching a Sunny Hunny sunset at the end of the day, but if you’re looking for fun, low cost activities to keep everyone happy and fill the hours in-between, we’ve got you covered.
Cheap family holidays 2023
Whether you prefer to play the lanes with a ten-pin bowling match or enjoy a more sedate game of lawn bowls, kingpins don’t need to wander far to show off their strike.
From Searles, follow the promenade towards the green where you’ll find Pier Family Entertainment’s amusements and undoubtedly you’ll want to play the slots for a while, but upstairs you’ll find Bowlers a full-length, six lane bowling alley. Check for opening hours and book ahead as this popular spot gets busy, particularly if the weather is less than spectacular, and see who can achieve a ‘perfect’ game of 12 strikes in a row!
Alongside Searles’ own bowling green, which costs just £3 per person with bowls hire at £2, further along the promenade at the Esplanade Gardens, the town’s 12-lane outdoor bowls green overlooks the seafront. Sessions start at £4 for an hour or £6.20 for two hours, and you can hire equipment from the crazy golf hut nearby or at the Alive Oasis on the promenade – fresh air, sea views and gentle exercise, what better way to spend a summer’s day?
Family holidays August 2023
Anyone for tennis? You’ve come to the right place! The town has held an annual tennis competition since 1920, and today competitors come from around the country to play at the Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament often called ‘Wimbledon-on-Sea’. The UK’s largest open tennis tournament takes place on 20-26 August this year, so if you’re staying at Searles during Tennis Week, wander up to Hunstanton Recreation Ground, on the edge of Cromer Road, to see the sport’s rising stars in action.
Hunstanton Tennis Week aside, the ten, grass tennis courts are available for public hire from May to September for £10.70 per hour, while even closer to home Searles has two hard courts for hire at £6 per hour – forgotten your racket? No problem, you can hire equipment at our Fountain Sports Bar for just £2.

For serious swimmers, our heated outdoor pool opens with adult only lane swimming at 9am, while the water slide is ready for action with general swimming from 10am until 5.45pm, followed by an exhilarating hour of water zorbing from 6-7pm (£5 charge per person, select days of the week).
Even if the weather is less than stellar, our indoor heated pool is open from 9am to 7pm and everyone is welcome at our Aqua Aerobics sessions which take place from 6pm on Mondays (members/owners £3.50, guests £4.50 per session) – reserve your place on 01485 536029 and, once you’re done, relax in the jacuzzi and sauna!
Norfolk Water Sports
The Wash is ideal for water sports, and dinghy races have taken place here since the early 50s. If you fancy trying your hand at kitesurfing, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) or power kiting while you’re in town, Hunstanton Watersports offers taster sessions, lessons and courses. Alternatively, Hunstanton Kayaks offers guided tours of the sandbanks and kayak hire with single and double craft available starting at £20 per person.
If you’d prefer to see the sea, but not get your feet wet, don’t miss our own Searles Sea Tours aboard the mighty Wash Monsters, two amphibious vessels which tour the coastline and offer seal safari experiences daily. Prices start at £9 per person and under 2s travel for free, so book ahead on 01485 534444 and make this a ‘must do’ during your stay.
Best holidays with children Norfolk
Simple pleasures often make the best family holiday memories, and at Searles Leisure Resort we’re proud so many guests return to recreate the adventures they had with their own parents and grandparents over the years. Generations of holidaymakers have loved wiling away an afternoon at the town’s amusements, and it’s amazing how long you can keep little ones happy with a tub of 2p coins as they try to win a cuddly souvenir!
Hunstanton still has a traditional funfair, Rainbow Park, which is within walking distance of Searles at Seagate Road. Along with wild rides for the fearless, you’ll find dodgem cars, a waltzer, roller coaster, ghost train and a carousel. There’s no entrance fee and the pay-as-you-go rides are around £2-£3 per person, with plenty of candy floss and refreshments to treat them to.
Slow the pace and feed their curiosity with an educational experience at the Sealife Centre, which is next door to the fair. With turtles, rays and sharks on show, don’t miss the Seal Hospital, which tends to abandoned pups and injured animals, and pop by Penguin Beach to watch the seabirds’ amusing antics. It’s worth knowing that you can save on entry fees by booking ahead at and that the centre is cashless, so don’t forget your card or mobile if you want to pick up a souvenir.
Relaxing UK holidays
It’s not just the little ones who get to have fun when you stay at Hunstanton’s #1 holiday park! We love our golf so much that we created our own Searles Golf Club The nine-hole, Links-style course and driving range are open to members and visitors of all abilities on a pay and play basis from 8am – book ahead and arrange a buggy or trolly on 01485 536023. Our resident PGA Professional Ray Stocker is also on hand if you want to work on your handicap!
One golf course is never enough in our opinion, and our sister club at Heacham Manor offers 18 holes in an American Links-style through parkland and lakes.
Round out your golfing break in Hunstanton with a game at the town’s historic championship Links course which was founded in 1891. Rated by pro players and keen amateurs around the world, Hunstanton Golf Club has an enviable reputation as both a challenging and picturesque place to play.
From championship game to crazy golf, Hunstanton has it all, so there’s no need for anyone to miss out on perfecting their putt. Enjoy the views from the cliff top at the town’s nine-hole pitch and putt course where adults play for £5.10, juniors £4.10. Or take your pick of short games behind the playground on Cliff Parade, at Blackbeard’s Adventure Golf on Southern Promenade or closer to home at our own mini-course, located next to the Hire Shop – adults cost £3.50, kids £2.50 and nothing beats a family tournament!
