A UK break at Searles has always been a more environmentally conscious choice than an overseas flight and package holiday, but the latest arrival at Searles Leisure Resort has some serious eco creds and can help reduce your travel carbon footprint even further.
Introducing the Willerby All-E to Searles, Hunstanton, Norfolk
More of us are thinking about the way we live and our family’s environmental footprint. From daily decisions such as shopping sustainably and recycling waste, to bigger investments into renewable energy for our home and driving an electric car, we can all do our bit to help protect the earth’s natural resources.
A new arrival at Searles also provides the opportunity to choose a holiday with fewer emissions, as the Willerby All-E is a game-changer which will help the industry to transition from a fleet run on liquid petroleum gas (LPG) to electric energy. Cleaner and greener than traditional LPG models, Willerby’s GreEN Standard, which Searles’ new Brookwood model uses, reduces energy consumption by up to 28 per cent. A patented thermal battery separates the holiday home’s central heating and hot water systems, replacing a traditional combi boiler, and managing electricity usage to minimise waste.
The thermal battery uses a new technology called PCM (phase changing materials) to store and deliver heat on demand to the unit’s water system which can deliver up to 40 minutes’ showering from a single charge. The battery automatically recharges when 80 per cent of the stored energy is used.
The All-E also features a low-consumption induction hob, which outperforms most gas hobs, and oven, central heating and optional air conditioning, ensuring there is no compromise on comfort when booking the all-electric holiday home.
Sited near to Searles’ main entrance, the double glazed holiday home has a large, contemporary style open-plan lounge, dining area and breakfast bar along with a modern kitchen with integrated appliances and bathroom. With room for five guests, the Willerby All-E is a leap forward for both Searles and guests who choose to ‘go green’ when booking a holiday at the park.
Searles Leisure Resort’s environmental plan
“We are passionate about reducing our energy consumption and have already invested £160,000 in solar systems across the site,” explains estate director Andrew Searle. “We’ve installed recycling centres for our guests and are looking at further separating food waste in the near future.
“We want to look after the environment we occupy, and we first got involved in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards, which champions holiday parks that are working to protect and enhance the environment, when my father was national chairman of the British Home and Holiday Park Association, back in 1996. As a result, we leave areas between pitches and have developed wildflower sites and installed bird boxes to enhance biodiversity around the park and support nature.
“We’ve already installed condensing boilers, water restricting valves and low energy bulbs to reduce the carbon footprint of our fleet and we work hard to communicate with guests to help us reduce energy usage.
“We know people want to relax while they are on holiday, but we have a high percentage of returning guests, many of whom have come to Searles over several generations and have become almost like family. Expectations are changing, and people now anticipate and are looking to recycle just as they do at home, so it’s our job to make this is accessible and convenient.
“The Willerby Brookwood arrived on site in early March and will be available to book from early April. It’s a great addition on so many levels for Searles, as more customers are looking for environmentally friendly options such as the all-electric model. We will run the Willerby Brookwood alongside our existing hire fleet and see how it’s received by guests, but this is just the beginning and the investment will help shape the future of the park.”
